US attack on Iran: Are we close to World War III?

The whole world is once again holding its breath. Last night, on June 21-22, 2025, the US attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities. It has been named “Operation Midnight Hammer” and this attack is like pouring fuel on the fire already burning between Israel and Iran. The US is now openly standing with Israel, and this one step has brought the world closer to war.

The night when fire rained from the sky

Just imagine the night when America’s most advanced B-2 stealth bombers reached the skies of Iran after traveling a long distance of about 11,000 kilometers. These were not just planes, they brought with them the equipment of destruction – GBU-57 MOP bunker buster bombs, which can destroy even the strongest bases hidden under the mountains. Maxar satellite images show six large craters in the mountains above Fordo, which testify to the destructive power of these bombs.

More than 30 Tomahawk missiles were fired at Isfahan from the US warship USS Georgia. All this was part of a well-planned strategy – first bombs, then missiles, so that Iran did not get a chance to recover. About 125 fighter jets like F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II, and F-16 Fighting Falcon provided security cover to the entire operation, and disabled Iran’s radar and missile systems.

US President Donald Trump himself came forward and confirmed this attack. He claimed that all three nuclear sites of Iran – Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan – have been completely destroyed. He says that the purpose of this operation was to end Iran’s nuclear weapons program, which both the US and Israel considered a threat to themselves. The Pentagon has insisted that no human life was lost in this attack, only nuclear sites were targeted. But is this really so?

Iran's response full of pain and anger

Iran has described the US attacks as “extremely dangerous and illegal”. Its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that this move by the US is a serious violation of the United Nations Charter and international law. Iran has clearly indicated that it will respond to this, and all options are open to it for revenge.

However, Iran also claims that its nuclear program has not suffered any major damage, because its uranium was already moved to other safe places. Iran’s state TV has also shown footage of its Khorramshahr-4 missile, which was used in the attack on Israel. This statement shows how carefree Iran is and how quickly it can retaliate.

World's reaction and India's confusion

After this attack, restlessness has spread all over the world. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Oman have expressed deep concern over the growing conflict in West Asia and have appealed for immediate de-escalation of tensions. Oman has condemned the US attacks as a “completely illegal invasion”, while Pakistan has called it a threat to the stability of the entire region. China and Russia have also condemned the US move and have asked for restraint.

This is a difficult time for India. We have good relations with both Israel and Iran. This increased tension in West Asia will have a direct impact on our energy security and our influence in the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and expressed deep concern over the current situation. He has appealed for immediate restoration of peace, adopting the path of dialogue and diplomacy, and early restoration of regional peace and security. India knows that if this fire spreads, the whole world will feel its heat.

What next? The path of war or peace?

Experts believe that Iran has many options after the US attack. It can directly attack US military bases, or close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital link in the world’s oil trade, or wait for the right moment and suddenly retaliate.

This attack is further complicating the already unstable situation in the Middle East. Many analysts are considering it as a situation of standing “on the brink of the Third World War”. Serious questions have also been raised on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the global nuclear security system.

The coming days are very important. The whole world will be watching Iran’s response and the next move of the international community. Will this region be pushed further into the fire of war, or is the path of diplomacy still open? This question is troubling all of us.

What do you think will happen next in this tense atmosphere?
